We’ve all been there, we have a goal to either lose fat, gain muscle or improve our athletic performance. Except we had no clue where to start, what to do, or how to do it. Those are some of the points that this article will help cover for you without wandering aimlessly in the overwhelming sphere of fitness.

Here are 4 tips for those just embarking on their fitness journey:

1.) Start small:

I can’t stress this one enough because it is human nature to commit everything to a new goal or challenge. However, for many of us, this leads to burnout and leads to us giving up on the journey entirely. So quieten that inner voice urging you to be a complete beast in the gym, just for now. You want to make sure you make regular exercise a habit before you decide to set new personal records every time you walk into the gym.(unrealistic for anyone)

2.) Try many different activities:

This is one that not many people explore in the beginning but it is vital for finding a form exercise that you find fun. You want to find a form of exercise that you find more like play than work, this will ensure you’re always motivated to do it. Here a list of different things you should try: Weightlifting, rowing, tennis, yoga, martial arts, cycling, surfing, jogging and yes even golf.

3.) Get a workout partner:

Preferably let this workout partner be a person you know well and enjoy hanging out with because this will help keep you accountable and will make workouts far more fun and thus tolerable. You’d also be able to spot each for the big 3 compound lifts: The Bench Press, The Squat, and The Deadlift. Now I know that not everyone has this luxury, so perhaps the next tip is more useful.

4.) Hire a personal trainer:

Now, this doesn’t have to be a permanent solution, it could just be for a few weeks in order to have someone to show you the ropes about how to do different exercises and which ones you should be doing whilst helping you build the habit regularly. Now once you feel competent enough to chuck the training wheels off then you can of course fly solo if that’s what you’d prefer.

Conclusion:

Starting to exercise for the first time can be a little overwhelming, so it would help to take the aforementioned tips to heart in order to let your initiation into the world of fitness be just a little smoother.
